Piano on Early Tours

Ask Katy

Hi Katy, I was listening to some of Duran's early live shows, from your 1982 world tour - god you guys sounded good. My question is I noticed the use of the Piano on such songs as "Rio," "Lonely in your Nightmare." Is there any reason why this instrument was not used on successive tours, as it really fills out the live sound, songs like "Rio" in particular. Take care, Richard

You would have possibly noticed piano on those songs because the band took a pianist with us on that tour. I think Spike Edney actually played on some songs when he was not playing Trombone as part of the brass section. On subsequent tours, Andy Hamilton played piano on occasion. KK"
