THEY'RE set to bring a taste of Rio to Southampton Common.
One of UK pop music's most successful and enduring bands, Duran Duran will provide a fitting finale to Common People 2016, the Daily Echo can reveal.
Music icons of the last four decades, with hits like A View To A Kill, Girls on Film, Hungry Like The Wolf and Rio in their repertoire, the band will headline the second two-day shindig on Sunday May 29.
They join previously announced Saturday headliner Craig David with his homecoming show on the Saturday of the late May bank holiday weekend.
A huge highlight of last year's Bestival, the band will again perform hits from their latest acclaimed album Paper Gods.
Bass guitarist and founder member John Taylor said: “We are very honoured to be a part of this year’s Common People festival. We had such an incredible time at Bestival last year. It’s going to be a fantastic weekend! See you all there."
Rob da Bank, who curates both festivals, added: "The boys are still churning out hits and absolutely smashed it at our mothership show Bestival last year."
Also joining Common People’s Southampton line-up on Sunday is dance music trailblazer Katy B. Firmly at the forefront of the most recent wave of chart invading beat fanatics, Katy’s armoury of pop-rave bangers saw her last album taking the top spot, and with follow up Honey poised to be the soundtrack of this summer, you can guarantee she’ll hit the mark on The Common.
Other previously announced performers include Primal Scream, Public Enemy, Gaz Coombes, Ghost Poet, Kurupt FM, Hospitality, Ram Jam, and many more, plus there’s still a whole raft of bands, DJs and outlandish action to announce.
