Hi Katy, This past week, I received my copies of the Hammersmith DVD and Rio collector's edition cd, both of which I absolutely love! Listening and watching has inspired the following 2 questions:
1. I have a feeling I won't be the only person to ask this. First THANK YOU to the band for finally including the Lonely in Your Nightmare video on this DVD! It's one of my favorite songs. The version included is different from the one familiar to U.S. fans. That version featured the black and white shots of London interspersed with the scenes from Sri Lanka, while this new one is entirely Sri Lanka images. I was wondering if this was specifically re-done for the Hammersmith DVD or did this version always exist?
FROM EMI: "That's the master version. I can only assume it was edited at a later date for the US market but what is on the DVD is the original version."
2. I looked back through the Ask Katy archives and didn't see this question. I'd like to know more about the process of bringing a saxophone into the band's sound. Was this always the plan? Did they ever consider having a sax player as a permanent member?
FROM NICK: "We never considered having a sax player as a permanent member, however I do believe it’s a very powerful and expressive musical instrument when used at the right time. In fact, the saxophone solo on “Dirty Great Monster” is one of my favorite moments on the RED CARPET MASSACRE album.”
