Where ARENA Was Shot

Ask Katy

Hi Katy - Many years ago (spring/summer 1984), my friend and I went to a small concert in Birmingham of only about 200 fans. The purpose of the gig was to shoot some additional footage for a live video (I think Arena), however, in "The Making of Arena" this concert is not referred to at all and all the live footage seems to come from the US tour. My question (finally!) is this: was footage from the special Birmingham concert ever used in Arena (or other video) and if not why not? Love the Astronaut CD - it has inspired me to really start LIVING my life again. Thank you to all the band. Andrea

THE BAND DOES REMEMBER THAT AFTER THEY FILMED AT OAKLAND COLISEUM IN AMERICA, THEY NEEDED TO SHOOT A FEW PICK UP SHOTS AND ALSO CREATE SOME OF THE ABSTRACT ENVIRONMENTS BEHIND THE STAGE. THIS WAS DONE AT BIRMINGHAM NEC, WHERE THE BAND DID INVITE A SMALL AUDIENCE. THE BAND DON’T REMEMBER DOING ANY OTHER SHOWS THAT WERE FILMED AT THE TIME, BUT THE FOOTAGE FROM THE NEC DID END UP BEING INTEGRATED – QUITE SEEMLESSLY – WITH THE US FOOTAGE. IT WAS MOSTLY ABOUT THE CUT AWAY, DRAMATIC PIECES, WHICH WERE ALL DONE AT THE NEC OR IN A FILM STUDIO.
