I was just wondering...the band had an initial single planned in 1980 for "Planet Earth" and "Anyone Out There". I am assuming these are totally different recordings than whats on the first album, but HOW different are they? I know Duran played a punkish version of "AOT" on tour...was that the single version, and do they have any plans of ever releasing a "rarities' type album? I think Nick has mentioned they'd put a vocal version of Tel Aviv on there...
FOR THE INITIAL SINGLE FOR PLANET EARTH THE BAND BELIEVES THEY WERE GOING TO RELEASE THE VERSIONS THAT THEY RECORDED WITH BOB LAMB (LOCAL BIRMINGHAM PRODUCER/ENGINEER). WHILE THEY DID DIFFER IN PERFORMANCE, THE BAND THINKS THE ARRANGEMENTS WERE ALMOST IDENTICAL. THE TRACKS EXSIST SOMEWHERE IN THE ARCHIVE, ALONG WITH OTHER DEMOS FOR THE FIRST TWO ALBUMS. THE VERSION OF TEL AVIV" YOU ARE REFERRING TO WAS ACTUALLY CUT AT AIR STUDIOS ALONG WITH A TOTALLY DIFFERENT VERSION OF GIRLS ON FILM BEFORE DURAN DURAN HAD A MAJOR LABEL RECORD DEAL. THERE IS A SONG CALLED TEL AVIV WHICH THEY RECORDED, SOUNDING NOTHING LIKE THE VERSION WHICH ENDED UP ON THE FIRST ALBUM THE ONLY SIMILIARITY IS THE TITLE. IT WAS RECORDED AT AIR IN THE SAME SESSIONS AS A RADICALLY DIFFERENT VERSION OF GIRLS ON FILM WHICH ALSO REMAINS UNRELEASED!
