dearest katy...I own an import version of POP TRASH. At the end of the CD, there are 13 short musical "items"....not sure what to call them really...anyway...I was wondering what the genesis of these were? are they fragments
of samples from ideas for songs that never quite made it......or just short experimental-type things? also...are there are unreleased songs we will ever find from the POP TRASH writing sessions? (short of the alternate language versions of somebody else on me)?thanks! bretton
HI BRETTON. I ASKED NICK AND HE SAID THAT THE SHORT SEGMENTS ON THE END OF THE EUROPEAN VERSION OF POP TRASH WERE CREATED BY HE AND WARREN USING ELEMENTS FROM MANY DIFFERENT SOURCES. SOME WERE MADE SPECIFICALLY FOR THE ALBUM, OTHERS WERE DEVELOPED FROM EXISISTING PIECES. IN FACT, HE WANTED TO DO A WHOLE ALBUM WITH 200 PIECES LIKE THAT, WHICH HE SAYS ONE DAY, MAYBE HE WILL GET ROUND TO!
THE PIECES WERE PUT TOGETHER AS A REACTION AGAINST SUB STANDARD BONUS TRACKS. THE GUYS FELT THAT THIS EXPERIMENTAL APPROACH WOULD BE MORE INTERESTING.
THERE ARE SEVERAL TRACKS WHICH DID NOT MAKE IT ON TO THE POP TRASH ALBUM AND ALSO A NUMBER OF KEN SCOTT MIXES THAT ARE NOT CURRENTLY SCHEDULED FOR RELEASE. HOWEVER, NICK SAID HE WOULD LOVE TO SEE THEM MADE AVAILABLE AT SOME STAGE IN THE FUTURE BECAUSE SOME OF THE PEOPLE ARE QUITE RADICALLY DIFFERENT FROM THOSE THAT APPEARED ON THE CD.
