Dance pop maestro Shamir released one of 2015’s best debut albums with Ratchet, a funky, swaggering good times soundtrack that will leave you eager for the 21-year-old’s next move. Well, here we go -- his 2016 will include a handful of dates opening for Duran Duran.

The move makes sense -- the iconic British band’s slick hooks and pizzazz are definitely in Shamir’s musical DNA. Duran Duran’s forthcoming 2016 headlining tour already included Chic featuring Nile Rodgers as openers; adding Shamir gives the bill a look to the future along with the well-placed elder statesmen.

Shamir and Chic will both be on hand for five glorious dates this April. The tour kicks off March 25 in Niagara Falls, Ontario and includes 31 shows before ending Aug. 3 in Glendale, Ari. In all, Shamir will appear alongside Duran Duran on eight nights: in Durham, N.C., Saint Augustine, Fla., Tampa, Fla., Bethlehem, Penn., Uncasville, Conn., Washington, D.C., Montréal, and Brooklyn, N.Y. Shamir marked the occasion by dropping a cover of a Duran Duran classic. Below, hear him take on “Hungry Like The Wolf,” replacing the '80s radio giddiness with a sparse, contemplative bedroom feel.
