Seminal ‘80s pop band, Duran Duran, just announced a new tour and album for 2015. Paper Gods, the band’s first album in five years, promises a return to their earlier sound, as well as a who’s who of guest collaborators. After the success of 2010’s All You Need is Now and their participation in the opening ceremonies of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Duran Duran is bursting out of the studio with an album that promises contributions from music powerhouses that cross all genres and generations. From pulling in producer and writer Nile Rodgers, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ guitar virtuoso John Frusciante, singers Janelle Monáe and Kiesza, and hit-maker Mark Ronson, Duran Duran have illustrious partners on this latest project. Even Lindsay Lohan makes a guest appearance. Yes, that Lindsay Lohan.
As such, ticket prices for the Paper Gods tour are already vastly outstripping prices that the band commanded on their most recent tour. According to data gathered from TicketNetwork.com’s secondary market ticket exchange, the average ticket price for 2011-2012’s All You Need is Now tour sat neatly at $115, with a “get-in” price of just $65. The price of the average ticket for this tour may be in part explained by the cancellation of several shows due to injuries and illness, as the tour was fraught with health mishaps. However, the freshly announced the Paper Gods world tour, which currently offers only a handful of select U.S. dates, is already commanding almost double the previous tour on the secondary market. With the average ticket price currently sitting at $205, Duran Duran fans will need to dig a little deeper for these shows. The average “get in” price for these shows is already $115 on the secondary market. And even though the tour only freshly assembled, fans can expect that ticket demand will rise before the tour launch in September given the small number of North American dates.
Paper Gods is also much more in demand than their most recent world tour, as many of their partnered artists have been responsible for some of the biggest hits in recent years. For example, Nile Rodgers of ‘70s funk band Chic was integral on the Daft Punk-Pharrell Williams hit “Get Lucky,” and Mark Ronson wrote and guested on Bruno Mars’ hooky-funk hit “Uptown Funk.” Chic will also be joining Duran Duran on several dates, ensuring album hits will be able to be experienced live. Though Duran Duran have two Grammy Awards, two Brit Awards, and an MTV Video Music Award under their belt, bringing out the heavy hit-makers for their latest project will likely work to further solidify their spot in the annals of rock history.
