Map of locations around New York City mentioned in song lyrics. (Map data: Google. Map created by Constantine Valhouli.)

New York, New York. It has inspired songwriters for decades. And now you can take a trip though a Google map that connects the sites mentioned in songs with the city.

Real estate developer Constantine Valhouli “created a map of about 200 New York references in popular music,” according to the Atlantic. You can click on each point on the map to see what song and artist is connected with that location, often with a link to a YouTube video. The map spans musical points over the five boroughs of New York City, the rest of Long Island and across the Hudson River to Hoboken, Union City and even New Brunswick, all in New Jersey.

If you zoom in on the West Village, you will find songs from Lou Reed, the Rolling Stones and the Clash. Or zoom in on the Times Square area and find songs from Duran Duran, the Pet Shop Boys, the Notorious B.I.G. and Marianne Faithfull.

So get into “An Empire State of Mind” (Jay-Z) and find the “New York Groove” (Kiss).
