"I was surprised when the offer of this honor was made to me by the Writers in Treatment program late last year but it seems that the recent release of my autobiography had now made me a suitable candidate. Having watched the Writers in Treatment program grow in significance since its inception, I am happy to be a part of that, and take a place among their storied list of annual
honorees." - John Taylor, Duran Duran
Commenting on John's upcoming Award Ceremony, Leonard Buschel, the founder of Writers in Treatment, said:
"It is with great pleasure and pride that Writers In Treatment celebrates the literary work of John Taylor's "In the Pleasure Groove: Love, Death, and Duran Duran" with the 2013 Experience, Strength and Hope Award. We honor John's courage and honesty depicting his astonishing career, and his journey through alcoholism and addiction to recovery. This work is an inspiration and guidepost for a generation of fans that might be dealing with similar issues. Previous recipients include Academy Award winning actor, Lou Gossett Jr., and astronaut/moonwalker Buzz Aldrin.
It's always a wonderful occasion when an accomplished artist in one field moves beyond his comfort groove, and produces an equally enjoyable and important work in another. His passion for creativity and recovery is apparent. At a time when people suffer as much, or more, from the social stigma of addiction, John, who came forward to champion recovery and dispel the dark clouds of superstition regarding this treatable illness, certainly deserves our recognition, admiration and heartfelt gratitude."
