avoiding "love"

Ask Katy

Hi Katy I've not heard the answer to this question anywhere, and it's been bugging me for years. Although it would seem that a lot of Duran songs are about love and relationships, it struck me many years ago that the word 'love' is not mentioned in a single lyric until the Big Thing album - that's 7 albums into the band! Is this deliberate or unintentional? Or am I just plain *wrong*?! Regards Mandy Smith, London

"Dear Mandy, on the contrary, this is in fact a very intelligent question. I did for many years consciously avoid using the word "love". I did this for a number of reasons. Primarily because I was of the opinion that it had become a worn out cliche which to some extent had lost meaning due to excessive mindless overuse. s"
