close encounter

Katy: Again, great job on the site -- it is unmatched with any other fan site around.
On the live "Chauffeur" version from the Arena album, the entry to the song sounds very much like a bit from the main title of the 1977 Steven Spielberg film, "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" (http://www.filmsite.org/clos.html). In the movie, they describe the sound signature as "Mais, c'est la guerre pentatonique...cinq notes au lieu de sept", translation: It's the pentatonic war. That old musical controversy between the five and seven note scales. Throughout the film, this was used to form of the interplay between music and light images and was written by John Williams. Can Nick confirm this and has he seen the new Spielberg film, "AI".
Thanks, Robert

HI ROBERT. I CHECKED WITH NICK AND YES, THE TUNE YOU HEARD WAS INDEED FROM "CLOSED ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND." AS FOR "A.I," I KNOW HE IS KEEN TO SEE IT AS HE IS A MAJOR STANLEY KUBRICK FAN, BUT HE HASN'T SEEN IT YET.
