Duran Duran will headline The Roundup MusicFest July 11 at Shaw Millennium Park.
“I’ve been looking forward to announcing the headliner for what is sure to be the concert event of the summer,” said Sarah Geddes, communications director of The Roundup MusicFest.
“We’re also very excited to partner with corporate Calgary to raise funds for our charity partner, the Calgary Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) for our inaugural year at Shaw Millennium Park.”
A previous version of the event called Stampede Roundup took place each Stampede at Fort Calgary.
Formed in 1978 in Birmingham, Duran Duran enjoyed a string of hits in the ’80s (Rio, Girls on Film, Hungry Like the Wolf, The Reflex) and worldwide superstardom, aided by wide exposure on new music video channels like MTV and MuchMusic.
Core members Simon Le Bon (vocals), Roger Taylor (drums), Nick Rhodes (keyboards) and John Taylor (bass) remain.
Shaw Millennium Park is located at 1220 9th Ave. S.W. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, April 11 at 10 a.m. on the event website: www.roundupmusicfest.com
A portion of the proceeds raised at the event will be donated to the Calgary Military Family Resource Centre, which helps Canadian Armed Forces military personnel and their families cope with unique military lifestyle challenges.
The Calgary Military Family Resource Centre serves over 1,800 military and veteran families in southern Alberta.
“Giving back to the community is extremely important, and we couldn’t think of a more notable cause,” said Geddes.
More performers for the event will be announced in the coming weeks.
