Iconic British group Duran Duran was honored with the prestigious Golden Note Award at the 2016 ASCAP Awards London.

The event, held Nov. 10 at London’s One Embankment, also recognized artists Jess Glynne and MNEK with the Vanguard Award. Other awards included: songwriters Amy Wadge for her collaboration with Ed Sheeran on “Thinking Out Loud” (song of the year, top digital song); Anthony Hannides, Michael Hannides, Levi Lennox and Joe Garrett for Zayn Malik’s “Pillowtalk” (Global Impact Award); and James Newman for his Calvin Harris collaboration “Blame” (top EDM song).

“It’s very important that artists get paid for what they do,” Duran Duran’s Simon Lebon said on ceremony's red carpet. “You do absolutely need somebody like ASCAP, otherwise we’d spend all our time knocking on people’s doors ... ASCAP can do that and we can go in the studio and make music.”

ASCAP president Paul Williams acknowledged in a statement that “in addition to their brilliant songwriting, Duran Duran have continued to innovate across the board,” noting their use of new technology to revolutionize the music video and their sartorial flare when working with fashion legends.
