Duran Duran work with Nile Rodgers and Mark Ronson on new album
Band are in the studio with former collaborators, while Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante will also contribute
After previously collaborating with Duran Duran on some their most famous work to date, Nile Rodgers is back in the studio with the 80s pop group.
The band’s new studio album is tentatively due for release in spring 2015. Alongside Mark Ronson, Rodgers has been pictured in the studio with the band, with the official Duran Duran website citing the Chic guitarist and British DJ as “producers” on the forthcoming record.
Both artists have a history with the former New Romantics: Mark Ronson co-produced Duran Duran’s 2010 album All You Need Is Now, while Rodgers co-produced their Notorious LP as well as The Wild Boys single. He also remixed their No 1 hit The Reflex and co-produced tracks on 2004’s Astronaut.
Perhaps most the most surprising collaborator on the group’s fourteenth record is former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante. “The extraordinarily talented John Frusciante has indeed been doing some work from his home base in California on our new album,” Duran Duran posted on their website in April. “The tracks have been going back and forth via the internet, and we are thrilled with the results. We are all such big fans of John’s work and are honoured to have him adding his magic to the record!”
Duran Duran will make their live return on CBS’ Fashion Rocks special at New York’s Barclays Centre on 9 September. Their last album, All You Need Is Now, was released on their own label Tapemodern and Mark Ronson’s Allido Records in the UK. It peaked at No 11.
