Duran Duran, All You Need Is Now
For those who still smart a little over Union of the Snake, Duran Duran’s All You Need Is Now (available on iTunes now and on CD in February) will come across as a make-good 26 years after the fact. Working with British producer Mark Ronson (Amy Winehouse, Adele), the group recreates the Rio-era sound that once helped them become international fashion-conscious superstars, right down to the slap bass, synthesizer arpeggios and tropical percussion. If this is the synthpop equivalent of the revival efforts given to ’60s R&B and country singers, it’s a successful one: Now may be all you need, but tracks like Girl Panic! and Runway Runaway make now sound exactly like 1983. — Mansfield
