Pop legends Duran Duran and super producer Mark Ronson took over a music store in Birmingham, signing autographs and posing for pictures pictures with hundreds of fans.
The Brummie legends and celebrity DJ Ronson met crowds of followers at Swordfish Records in Temple Street last night.
The icons visited the store ahead of Ronson’s gig at Digbeth’s HMV Institute later in the evening, where Duran Duran joined him on stage for tracks from Mark Ronson And The Business Int’l, which was released on Monday. They also performed their own classics Girls On Film and Planet Earth.
Singer Simon Le Bon said: “It’s nice to get up close with the fans, it’s great when they’re relaxed and you can have a chat.”
The stars arrived in chauffeur-driven cars as girls shrieked in excitement.
They were whisked to the back entrance before greeting fans in the store to autograph memorabilia.
Midwife Rachel Cookson, aged 36, from Penn in Wolverhampton, queued for more than an hour and said: “I’ve been a fan since I was 14. I’m fulfilling a burning ambition seeing them.”
The fivesome are in the middle of a two-year collaboration with Ronson, who has worked with Amy Winehouse and Madonna and is producing their new album out next year. Simon
Le Bon said something just ‘clicked’ between the super producer and the band adding: “He knows good melodies, good beats and great music and textures and that’s shone through.”
Simon sings lead vocals on Ronson’s track Record Collection and the young producer said: “We’re tapping back into the sound of their greatest hits. It became quickly apparent we were on to something pretty special.”
