I was greatly saddened to hear the tragic news that Alexander McQueen has died. His commitment to artistry and design in the fashion world has been extraordinary. I saw several of his early runway shows after he had graduated from Central St Martin's and they were all truly spectacular, such a unique creative vision; a giant headdress filled with butterflies as a model carefully descended a steep staircase, a girl in a white dress under attack from a mechanical robot spraying paint which splattered all over her, a catwalk filled with liquid that changed colour half way through the show and then a rain shower poured down on the models as they paraded the runway.... It's rare that you
find someone who is able to consistently reinvent themselves and continue to produce dynamic work, but some of McQueen's most recent collections have been equally as beautiful as those which helped carve out his identity, almost two decades ago.
He'll be missed by many, including Duran Duran.
