VH1 TO BROADCAST DURAN DURAN’S FIRST UK SHOW IN TWO YEARS -RED CARPET MASSACRE IN ASSOCIATION WITH VH1
DURAN DURAN’S SOLD-OUT,ONE-NIGHT-ONLY PERFORMANCE AT THE LYCEUM
VH1 is proud to announce exclusive access to pop legends, Duran Duran’s forthcoming one-off concert at the Lyceum on Monday 3rd December. VH1 will premiere the bands first London show in two years on Saturday 22nd December.
The now, sold-out Lyceum show on Monday 3rd December replaces the previously announced Odeon Leicester Square date shut down by police and city officials, who became concerned about crowd control when the level of demand for tickets became apparent.
Duran Duran’s one-night-only performance at the Lyceum is being staged as part of a series of events around the world to celebrate the release of the band’s highly anticipated new album ‘Red Carpet Massacre’ which they’ve worked on over the past year with Justin Timberlake and top producers Timbaland and Nate ‘Danja’ Hills. Band members Simon LeBon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor and Roger Taylor have just finished a two week residency on Broadway, receiving some of the best reviews of their career.
The band’s plans for their first UK date in two years have been in the making for some time, but when the original Odeon Leicester Square show was announced in late October by Simon and John on GMTV, the venue’s telephone ticket-lines rapidly went into meltdown with the volume of calls, and within 24 hours the Metropolitan Police and Westminster Council had decided to shut down the event due to concerns over crowd control in and outside the theatre. The band and their team are thrilled that they have now secured The Lyceum, where the band first played more than 25 years ago.
Performing for well over two hours on December 3rd, Simon, John, Nick and Roger and guitarist Dom Brown will take the audience on a musical journey, presenting their new record RED CARPET MASSACRE in its entirety, together with many of the band’s classic hits from the past 29 years and a special electro set that will delight their loyal army of fans.
Commenting on the announcement lead singer Simon Le Bon said; “Our experience with Broadway proved how well it works to present a show like this in a traditional theatrical environment, rather than a rock venue. The only challenge for us, however, has been finding places that are available for any period of time. We were lucky to find the Barrymore in New York for a two week run, but in the West End of London, we have had to work around the theatre schedules and are fortunate to have been able to go into the Lyceum (which is currently home to the Lion King) after a matinee – which will allow us to build our production. Having VH1 involved in the Lyceum show means that we’ll be able to share this very special one-off event with a lot more of our fans.”
Matt Cook, Director of Talent and Music MTV Networks UK & Ireland commented: “As one of the most exciting, iconic British bands of the past three generations, we feel privileged to be part of this exclusive UK show and also to support Duran Duran’s new album. It seems the perfect moment and band for a very special live event on our channels’
As part of this partnership, VH1 have acquired a limited number of tickets to this now-sold-out show and will be running competitions on the channel and website, giving its audience an exclusive opportunity to attend this amazing red carpet event premiere.
The highlights from ‘Red Carpet Massacre’ will be featured in a VH1 Live 60min special on Saturday 22nd December at 10PM. The show will include performances of classic Duran Duran hits, tracks from the new album and additional red carpet arrivals and backstage access footage.
