Duran Duran shines

UNCASVILLE, Conn. - While its audience has matured from teenagers to 30-somethings, Duran Duran still knows how to elicit screams from its mostly female fan base. The band played a collection of infectious pop songs and soulful ballads at a sold out show at the Mohegan Sun Arena Sunday night.

The 1980s MTV faves, who reunited in 2000, performed such classics as "Save a Prayer" and "A View to a Kill" mixed in with unreleased singles as "Hold Back the Rain" and "The Chauffeur." The quintet also played six songs from its new release "Astronaut," including its latest single "What Happens Tomorrow." Lead singer Simon LeBon's voice was strong during the 21-song set that included the hit "Hungry Like the Wolf" and "Wild Boys."

Every suggestive dance move made by LeBon was met with screams from the crowd. LeBon donned a black chauffeur's hat and suit to perform the synthesizer-heavy "The Chaffeur." With the exception of drummer Roger Taylor, the band wore black or gray suits and lived up to its reputation of melding fashion and music. Other songs offered during the night included "Planet Earth," "I Don't Want Your Love," "Come Undone," "Chains," "Tiger Tiger," "Bedroom Toys," "Notorious," "Nice," "Ordinary World" and "Wild Boys."

For the encore, LeBon changed into a blue T-shirt that read "1978," the year Duran Duran was formed. LeBon introduced each member of the band during "Girls on Film" and even walked into the crowd to greet fans. The band ended the show with "Rio."
