DURAN DURAN have added an extra date to their forthcoming UK winter tour, due to an unprecedented demand for tickets.
The band today (31st August 2005) announced an additional show at London's Earl's Court on Wednesday December 22nd, 2005. Tickets go on general sale Friday 2nd September at 09:00am and are priced at $30, $35 and $45 each. DURAN DURAN dominated the charts throughout the '80s and well into the 90's; with worldwide hits such as "Rio", "The Reflex", "Save A Prayer", "Ordinary World", "Girls on Film" and "Wild Boys", bewitching generations of fans and breaking box office records around the globe. In 2001, with the same undeniable musical chemistry and signature style, the five original band members (Simon LeBon, John Taylor, Andy Taylor, Roger Taylor and Nick Rhodes) got back together to record a new album and embark on an extensive world tour that garnered them rapturous reviews and saw them back on top form.
In the last four years Duran Duran have been honoured with no less than five Lifetime Achievement awards: Q Magazine, The Brits, MTV, the Ivor Novello's, and the Spanish Onda's. Their album "Astronaut" entered the album charts at #3 in the UK and their 2004 UK tour saw them performing to no less than 240,000 people.
On July 2nd, 2005 the band proudly joined the superstar line-up at Live 8 in Rome in front of hundreds of thousands of people and a global TV audience of more than one billion people. Later that same night they flew to Copenhagen where they played to another 70,000 fans at the Roskilde festival. Over the past two years, Duran Duran have played in more than 22 countries to an audience of over 3.5 million fans.
The upcoming UK dates will mark the end of the "Astronaut World Tour", after which the band will return to the studio to start work on their second album for Epic Records.
Duran Duran, will now play five UK dates in total - starting on December 16th, 2005 at the Glasgow SECC as follows:
