DURAN DURAN Stadium Show
BRAVERY SCORE WITH DURAN DURAN!
ST ANDREWS FOOTBALL GROUND, BIRMINGHAM
Saturday 28th May 2005
Following the addition of Daniel Bedingfield late last week to Duran Durans May 28th Stadium Show bill at Birminghams St Andrews Football Ground, the band today announced that they have confirmed New York electro-rockers THE BRAVERY to open the show.
The Bravery, whose eponymous debut album entered at #5 in the UK charts earlier this year, were so keen to join Duran at their home-town date that they will charter a helicopter in and out of the city, having already committed to play at two other shows that same day. The Bravery will kick off with a slot on Winchesters Homelands Festival before flying to Brum to open for Duran. Later that night they will play a sold out headline show at Londons Astoria.
The Braverys self titled debut album is a slick twist on 80s new wave and post-millennium modern rock and has clear Duran Duran influences throughout. A spokesperson for Duran Duran commented; The Braverys combination of bravado, swagger, style and luscious synth-driven pop, leads the new millennium new wave revival and will certainly add an exciting new dimension to the Duran Duran stadium show.
Ever since the release of their Unconditional EP last year (2004), tongues have been wagging about The Bravery. Fearless the third track to be taken from their debut record will be released 23rd May and is the follow-up to their Top Ten smash An Honest Mistake. The Duran Duran show coincides with the bands UK tour which kicks off in Leeds on the 23rd of May.
The St Andrews stadium show will be Duran Durans single biggest UK performance in 21 years, since the band played Birminghams Aston Villa football ground on July 23rd 1983. It also follows a phenomenally successful sold out UK arena tour in April of last year, where the band played to more than 250,000 people over 17 shows. The latter included three sold out nights at Birminghams NEC, and five capacity shows at Wembley Arena that broke box office records.
Commenting on the forthcoming show, lead singer Simon Le Bon said; We are absolutely delighted to have The Bravery on board for the St Andrews show along with Daniel Bedingfield. Each act will make a unique musical contribution to the date and we are sure our fans will will love the bill he St Andrews stadium show in May will see Duran Duran perform old classics alongside new tracks from their latest Epic Records release ASTRONAUT.
