81-Track Collection Contains Single, Alternate And Rare Versions Of Band’s Smash Hits “Notorious,” “Ordinary World,” “Come Undone,” and more!

In Stores: November 2, 2004

Hollywood, CA, September 23, 2004 – Capitol Records/EMI Music Catalog Marketing is gearing up for the November 2 release of Duran Duran: Singles Box, Volume 2 (1986-1995). Housed in a flip-top box with 14-page booklet, the set’s 81 tracks are presented on 14 CDs in individual sleeves with replicated original single artwork. The new compilation features remastered versions of all of Duran Duran’s 7” singles from ’86 to ’95, including “Notorious,” “Come Undone,” “All She Wants Is,” and “Ordinary World.” Making it truly collectible, the set also boasts b-sides and a host of bonus tracks, including live versions and several 12” extended mixes, many of which make their CD debut on the new collection.

For the first time, Duran Duran: Singles Box, Volume 2 (1986-1995) presents the band’s top hits from 1986 through 1995 in a diverse array of versions, including five mixes of the monster club hit “Notorious,” including two live versions, and four mixes of “Ordinary World,” with two especially poignant acoustic takes. The haunting original album version of “Come Undone” becomes the subject of an interpretive spin-off remix; a playful exploration into the versatility of the pop ballad. Also not to be missed is the super-sexy “All She Wants Is,” boasting the filthiest synth riff to dare to grace 1989’s Top 10. Duran Duran toasted many of their musical idols with the Thank You album in 1995, and two memorable singles from it, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five’s “White Lines” and Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day,” are also included in multiple versions on the new set. Capitol/EMI released Duran Duran: Singles Box, Volume 1 (1981-1985) in 2003.

Borne of Birmingham, England’s cutting edge alternative club scene in 1978, Duran Duran’s remarkable pop sensibilities and New Romantic art school glamour broke them almost instantly into the mainstream, crossing cultural and geographical borders to become a global sensation. Stylistically influenced by Roxy Music and David Bowie, and musically inspired by post-punk and disco, the band ruled the airwaves and the charts with a sophisticated yet massively hooky pop dynamic of distinctive innovative keyboard sounds, dirty and melodic rock guitar, a funky disco-inspired rhythm section, and futuristic lyrics in a style that’s been described as “the Sex Pistols meet Chic.”

With the original members of Duran Duran now reunited, the past year has seen the band’s enduring musical influence acknowledged throughout the world, with top honors including the MTV Awards’ Lifetime Achievement Award bestowed on the group. Duran Duran’s recent touring to large arenas reflects the band’s continued status as one of the world’s super-groups, and the international buzz surrounding the band’s new studio album has made it one of the most anticipated releases this season.
